Because of one of the forest fires in 2024, a piece of the trail is closed throughout 2025, so we had to go down to Wrightwood. That was part of our resupply plan, and by coincidence also Sten’s birthday. So we could take a motel room and celebrate in town.
This afternoon we’ll get a lift with a ‘Trail Angel’ back to the trail. These are volunteers who help hikers with everything possible, including transport between trail and town.
A highlight from the trip here has been Deep Creek Hot Springs, where we spent an afternoon with a bunch of other hikers in a basin with naturally heated water.
We have also been past the ‘famous’ McDonald’s located next to a highway right where the trail crosses below. It was full of dirty and hungry hikers like us 😉
